Discover the table manners that traveled across the Atlantic with the "Pilgrims," and find out about what really happened at the harvest celebration of 1621. Concept: Cultural Cuisine Following Paul Revere Find out what really happened during Paul Revere's midnight ride. Retrace Revere's route from his home in North Square towards the Charles River. Travelers take on the roles of Paul and Rachel Revere, their children, British soldiers, rowers, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and many others. Concept: Footsteps of Legends A Land of Immigrants Boston's North End changed dramatically in the 1800s as Irish, Eastern European and Italian immigrants settled in the colonial dwellings in enormous numbers. At the City of Boston Archaeology Lab, students examine 19th-century items excavated at the Revere House. Each artifact provides fascinating clues about the families who lived and worked in the Revere House when it was a boarding house. On a walking tour through the North End students hear accounts of children who grew up in the nearby tenements, discovering how they helped support their families by working as "newsies," trooped to the local bath house with little brothers or sisters in tow, played stickball, and helped tend rooftop gardens. On this historic walk of Lower Manhattan, follow in the steps of George Washington, who was inaugurated as our first president on the steps of Federal Hall on Wall Street, across the street from the Stock Exchange. After his inauguration, he made his way over to St Paul's Chapel, passing Trinity Church, where George and Martha Washington were members and where Robert Fulton and Alexander Hamilton are buried. Concept: Footsteps of Legends Stepping out on Broadway! Would you like to understand the feeling of performing on Broadway? Or see what really happens behind those curtains? This ‘Flash Forward' moment is a behind-the-scenes look at Wicked run by Wicked cast-members. Even if you haven't seen Wicked, your students will be fascinated by the details and complexities that go into a major Broadway production. Concept: Flash Forward Exploring the Culture and Cuisine of Chinatown Discover the history, culture, and amazing food specialties of New York City's Chinatown! Explore historic landmarks, as well as outdoor markets and busy streets on this walk through one of America's largest Chinatown communities. Students will have an opportunity to learn about another culture, sample some traditional fare, and recognize the importance of cultural diversity in a community. Visit the Newseum, one of the world's most interactive museums! Students will immerse themselves in the world's greatest news stories, along with a private guide. After the tour, students will have the opportunity to learn more about how stories are chosen, investigate what factors influence content, and how breaking news impacts traditional print journalism! Concept: Flash Forward Who dunnit?! Students will test their problem solving and scientific skills in this interactive visit to the Crime and Punishment Museum! The group will find they are in the middle of a fully intact crime scene complete with evidence. During this ‘investigation' they are tasked with solving riddles, decoding information, and document vital clues in order to solve the puzzle! Concept: Flash Forward Discovering Annapolis Armed with compass and clues, Colonial guides will help students discover the hidden secrets of Annapolis. To find the answers, teams will visit a variety of Annapolis landmarks, all within a half-mile radius of Annapolis City Dock. Inscriptions on statues will be read, architectural features of buildings identified, and other notable landmarks will be searched to answer the scavenger hunt riddles. Concept: Active Learning Sample Washington DC Itinerary PhiladelphiaRoll the Dice! After a visit to the National Constitutional Center, students will test their knowledge about the Constitution and American history while competing to see who can make it to the finish first! What makes this game unforgettable is that your students are the game pieces! Together they'll roll the giant dice, answer questions, and work their way across the board to the finish. Concept: Active Learning Turmoil & Treason It's July 1, 1776 and Congress is debating the Declaration. In Philadelphia, rumors fly. Encounter 18th-century townspeople with strong feelings on both sides of the debate over Independence. Experience the tension and excitement surrounding the signing of the Declaration as Colonial guide escorts the students through some of Philadelphia's historic treasures, meeting Loyalists, and Patriots who take you back to this thrilling time. Concept: Footsteps of Legends Taste of Philly Learn the story behind cheese steaks, hoagies, pretzels, and other Philly food favorites, and the 114-year history of the vibrant Reading Terminal Market on this walking tour. This unique historic market is at the heart of Philadelphia, and known for the fresh produce, Amish specialties, handmade crafts, and of course the cheese steaks! Students will learn about the rich history of this iconic market, before indulging is some local fare! Concept: Cultural Cuisine Sample Philadelphia Itinerary |
